Emerson Essay

In Emerson's writing "On Self," Emerson's main idea is supported by tone, diction, and syntax.Emerson uses this to demonstrate to its readers how being yourself is important and supportive. Emerson uses a tone that can be described as an inspiring, sincere, or challenging. An example is when/how he tells his readers to be themselves and not to be like someone they are not. This shows an inspiring peace/section of reading because Emerson is letting his readers know that it is important to be yourself and to set any negativity aside and focus on just being "you." We can use this idea to help us in our own life because you will in a way, free yourself and learn to love yourself by knowing who youbare and by expressing it with others. Emerson also uses syntax that is shown in a sophisticated manner, meaning in a stylish way. An example is when Emerson says/plans his prompt from the beginning to the end. Little by little Emerson talks more or shows more reason further into his writing, as if the beginning were to grab the readers attention. We can use this data/idea in our life to start a conversation with someone to discuss and slowly get into the actual details. Such as, (Just an example) if you were to talk about space, you can get someone's attention real quick if you ask a very interesting question. And they slowly start explaining. Finally, Emerson uses diction in a very interesting manner in my opinion. A reason in why is, when Emerson gives the reader a phrase about the devil and how he may be the devil or son of his. This is a very interesting way of how Emerson showed diction in an interesting manner because he is telling the readers how it doesn't matter if he's the devil or not, all that matters is that you are being yourself and that's everything. We can use this idea from Emerson to show others around you that you don't care what they think about you because what is there more to ask than to be yourself. In Conclusion, Emerson's writing is shown to be inspiring, sincere, challenging, sophisticated and interesting. Which is all broken down into tone, diction, and syntax to provide its readers to just be themselves.
